A smile, a gesture, a simple movement, all impossible to be described by words, but perfect to be captured by a camera. To some people, a picture is worth a thousand words, but to others, they are memories to be cherished forever.
"Fuji, that girl is here again!" Kikumaru pointed to a distant figure outside the tennis courts, ?She?s here all day, everyday!?
"Which girl?" Fuji asked as he glanced at the direction where Kikumaru was pointing at, "Oh, it?s her, Eiji, don?t worry about her, concentrate on the finishing the laps or we will be able to enjoy Inui?s Golden Power Remix again."
Kikumaru made a face at Fuji?s comment and shuddered at the mysterious smile on his friend?s face. At the thought of being forced to drink one of Inui?s health drinks, Kikumaru raised his jogging speed before returning to the original conversation topic.
"But she's always here during practice with that camera of hers, all day, everyday! How many photos does she need anyways?" Kikumaru complained, "She's distracting me!"
"Now Eiji, keep your voice down and keep running" Fuji reminded, "We can figure out what to do about this 'distraction' after practice."
The two best friends finished another lap around the tennis court when the girl came into view again. Still snapping photos after photos while Kikumaru Eiji let out another cry of frustration.
"Why doesn't Tezuka do something about her?" Kikumaru complained, ?Normally, he would definitely give her one of his silent glares and she would probably disappear forever from the courts after that!?
"That's because she's the editor of the yearbook and she's in charge of designing the pages for our tennis club." Inui offered the information as he joined Kikumaru and Fuji, "Tezuka gave her special permission to take as many photos as she need during our practice."
"Inui?" Kikumaru yelled in surprise and jumped back, "Where did you come from?"
"Ahmm, as you may have noticed, everyone is running laps to warm-up." Inui cleared his throat, "I know I have a rather odd effect on people, but you didn't have to act that surprised!"
Both Fuji and Kikumaru didn't know how to reply to this unusual response. So the three Seigaku regulars ran another few laps in silence before Kikumaru spoke up again.
"So who is that girl anyways?"
" , third year, editor of the school yearbook, ace student..." Inui flipped through his notebook as the three continued to finish their laps, "...and currently single."
?Inui,? Kikumaru said slowly as he shared a look with Fuji, ?Your data is scary??
", do you have the layout page for the tennis team? needs to organize all the sport pages with her editorial and intro." called across the room, "And I need a copy of the dedication speech for further editing."
"Oh yes, those files are both on my laptop." pointed at the system near the printer, "Just transfer the files yourself, okay?"
and exchanged looks and nodded. The girls moved around the stacks of papers and sat down to start 's laptop. The two were soon bored of staring at the blank screen as the system started to upload and decided to turn their attention to their yearbook editor.
", I never understood while you took the job of editing the tennis' team's page yourself." questioned as the laptop slowly loaded, "You are the editor after all and sports pages are my forte."
", you know the final layout is due at the end of the week for printing, and it?s my job to make sure everything gets done on time." answered as she shuffled the order of some papers, "Besides, final exams are right around the corner and it's only fair that I share some of the workload."
"Are you sure there isn't some alternative motive?" teased, "I heard you have been attending the tennis' team's practice everyday for the past week..."
"And that?s because I needed photos and information to design the page." confirmed as she stood up, "I need to contact some of the sponsors about the limited finance situation, so once you get the files from my laptop, shut it down okay?"
"Yes Boss!" Both and answered as made her way to the door, "See you later!"
raised a questioned eyebrow at her two friends and shut the door behind her.
" seriously work too hard." commented as she stabbed the usb flashdrive into 's laptop, "And we are working overtime with her!"
"I know!" responded, "Out of the 16 members of the yearbook committee, we're the only ones working so hard!"
The girls sighed at the thought and moments later, the signal that the laptop had finished uploading snapped both of them back to reality.
"Well, no use complaining, always had a way of making us feel guilty." concluded the topic, "Now, where are those files?"
The two girls huddled in front of the screen and scanned the many individually labeled files. After clicking on "Yearbook" on the desktop, they found the files they needed among a massive list of other related materials.
"Now, just copy and paste the layout and speech onto the flashdrive..." waited until the transfer was completed and close the file window, "...and we're done!"
was about to drag the flashdrive and remove it from the computer when suddenly noticed something and almost pushed off her seat.
"Look at that file!" exclaimed while struggled to regain balance, "It's labeled, "Love"?"
"Let's see what's in it?!" responded excitedly, forgetting for a moment to criticize ?s sudden action, "I know we shouldn't intrude on 's private files, but I'm so curious!"
"A look wouldn't hurt." supposed as she clicked open the file and was astounded at what she saw.
Hundreds of icons dominated the page featuring images of only one person: Kikumaru Eiji of the Seigaku boy's tennis team.
"Wow, never knew was a stalker!" laughed as she scanned through the thumbnail photos, "But seriously, what a collection!"
"Wait, there's another file over here!" clicked it open and was astounded again, ?Wow??
This file was full of CG images that had photoshopped to combine photos of herself with photos of Kikumaru Eiji. Obviously, a lot of work was put into creating those images.
"Who knew had a thing for Kikumaru Eiji?" whispered, "She never told us anything!"
"Well, you know ." answered, "But it has led me to think..."
"You have an idea?" prompted, "You're not thinking of forcing those two together or anything like that, are you?"
"I will tell you later." dismissed ?s question with a wave of her hand, "But first, help me transfer this entire file onto the flashdrive before comes back!"
"Hey girls, the sponsors agreed to add additional funding for the yearbook project under the conditions that I would redesign their ads at the back section. So I need to redefine the page total layout and page count, now..." looked up from her stack of papers and found the yearbook room empty, ?Now where did they go??
"Fuji! There are more girls taking photos again!" Kikumaru complained as he pointed to two girls in the distance, "They are distracting me!"
"Eiji, if you're so annoyed, then why are you posing for them?" Fuji pointed out as Kikumaru blushed slightly, "Besides, it looks like they are trying to get your attention."
"Huh?" Kikumaru looked closer at the two figures in the distance, "Right..."
Apparently the two girls were holding a gigantic sign that said, "Kikumaru Eiji: Come Here!". However, to avoid running extra laps later, Fuji and the rather embarrassed Kikumaru waited until the practice was over before catching up with the girls to find out what was going on.
"What do you want?" Kikumaru got straight to the point and started to interrogate the two girls, "And where's your friend ?"
"Oh, 's busy, but we got something that might interest you." declared with a mischievous smile, "Something that might change your life forever!"
?I don?t believe it.? Kikumaru shook his head and look at Fuji for reassurance.
"Really?" Fuji on the other hand was rather interested, "This I got to see."
"Then come with us." motioned toward the school exit, "Hurry~!"
Kikumaru sighed and followed the girls to some unknown destination.
"So what was it you wanted to show me?" Kikumaru asked again, "And why did we have to come to my house?"
"Because we need a computer and your house is the closest, that's why!" marched across the room and started the computer, "Trust me, these files are definitely worth your time."
The two girls along with the Kikumaru and Fuji have somehow made their way to Kikumaru's house. And despite the constant questioning, the girls did not reveal what the giant surprise was.
"Here you go!" exclaimed as she opened the file on her flashdrive, "Prepare to be amazed!"
The girls made way for Fuji and Kikumaru as they stared at the computer screen.
"What is this?" Fuji muttered as he glanced at each image, "What a collection!"
Kikumaru on the other hand was speechless, he stared at the image CGs the girls found on 's laptop and was dumbfounded at the works.
"Is this supposed to mean something?" Kikumaru finally said, "This girl is isn't she?"
"Man, you're slow!" slapped Kikumaru with his own stuffed bear, "Don't you get it! It?s obvious that likes you!!!"
"Really?? Kikumaru hesitated before continuing, "The truth is?well, I kinda like her too."
"Eiji," Fuji spoke up, "I thought you said she was a distraction?"
"She is!" Kikumaru persisted, "Because I want to show her my good side, I can't concentrate on tennis!"
"So, Kikumaru Eiji," asked, "What are you going to do now?"
"I...don't know..." Kikumaru uttered, "But?where did you get those files?"
"Simple, they were copied from 's desktop and for the happiness of our friend, we chose to show it to you." declared, "Lucky for you, we are happy to tell you that and I have already planned Part B of getting you two together."
"And we just need you to give us the okay on the plan!" continued, "So, how about it?"
"Um...okay?" Kikumaru blushed, "Anything is worth a try I suppose."
"So what is this Plan B?" Fuji asked as the two girls got out a notebook and started to draw out their mission.
"It's like this..."
"...I thank everyone who has contributed to the making of this annual project and I hope this year's hard work by everyone has paid off to create a yearbook full of wonderful memories..."
finished her speech as a round full of applause sounded around the auditorium. It was the last day of the school year and unknown to the poor girl, a secret plan was underway for the sake of her happiness.
"Please line up orderly along the tables to pick up your copy." motioned toward the tables around the auditorium, "Please be sure to bring a copy of your student ID or sale receipt to ease the process."
Everyone who had purchased a copy of the yearbook got up from their seats and lined up along one of the many tables to get their copy. and the rest of the yearbook crew were soon busy sorting out, exchanging yearbook and crossing out names on their lists. Half an hour later, the auditorium was finally empty except for the three friends.
"That was so intense!" muttered as she sank into a nearby chair, "I just wish we had more people to help out!"
"Yeah, this year's sales are the highest in the Seigaku?s history!" exclaimed as she calculated the final amount, "Our profits would help to replace some of the photography equipment right?"
"Yes, it's finally over..." breathed out, "Now, here are your copies!"
handed over two copies to and and placed her own copy in her book bag. To her surprise, there was another copy left in the cardboard box. She picked up the extra copy as a familiar voice was heard behind her.
"May I have my copy?"
turned around and saw Kikumaru Eiji standing there with a hand extended. hesitated a moment before handing over the last copy. At the same time, and were in the process of sneaking out to leave the two alone.
"Let me just make sure you're on the list." said quickly and bowed down to scan the long sales list. "Oh yes, you're here!"
raised to her full height and her eyes landed on a page in the yearbook that Kikumaru had opened to on the table.
"What is this...?" thought as she looked closer at the page, it had clearly labeled and Kikumaru as the cutest couple of the year along with a very familiar looking CG photo of her and the boy.
looked up and saw Kikumaru staring at the same page, didn't know what to say, "I don't know how this could have happened...I'm so sorry!"
"Don't apologize, I asked your friends to change the page layout for me," Kikumaru revealed, "Let me show you another page."
Kikumaru flipped the yearbook to one of the latter pages and among the series of senior predictions, he pointed to the one that read Kikumaru Eiji: Will love and cherish forever.
"I...you mean..." left her sentence unfinished as she stared at Kikumaru, "I don't know what to say..."
"Then write out your response." Kikumaru answered as he flipped his yearbook to the last autograph page, "Please leave a message for me?"
accepted the yearbook and after a moment of hesitation, she wrote a message, handed the book back to Kikumaru, and ran away. Kikumaru stared at her backdrop and read the brief message that wrote, "Love should always be accepted - ..."
The meaning of the message was clear as a bright smile appeared on Kikumaru's face, but suddenly the smile disappeared just as fast, "Wait, then why did she run away?"
Kikumaru noticed there was more to the message and read on, "...P.S. Now I'm going to hunt down the two who dared to invade my private files and change the yearbook result..."
Kikumaru stood still as a rush of laughter escaped him and he hugged the yearbook close to his heart as he went to find and rescue and from his newly found girlfriend.
